We love our children, and we want to support them in any way we can.

We love our children, and we want to support them in any way we can. As parents and carers, it can be difficult to navigate our child’s eating disorder journey. We fear saying the wrong thing, and we desperately want to find a solution to alleviate the burden we see in our child. At Change Creates Change, we believe you should not need to shoulder this responsibility on your own.

This is why we created Parents EmpowerED.

Eating disorders cause children to suffer.

They wreak havoc on a child's thoughts and emotions every minute of every day. It robs them of freedom and joy. No parent or carer should have to watch their child suffer. And they definitely shouldn’t feel like it is somehow their fault.

It's not your fault.

The truth is, eating disorders bring chaos to families. They stir up conflict and lead to relationship breakdowns. Eating disorders make your child resistant and angry one moment, then shut down and miserable the next. They wear down parents and carers and steal away what little free time they had before the eating disorder.

Of course you’re tired and burnt out.

The lack of support and guidance has worn you down and it’s taking a toll on your family. No wonder you’re afraid of doing or saying something wrong. One misstep and the eating disorder is in charge again. And that’s the last thing you and your child need.

If you're feeling frustrated, scared, and exhausted, you're not alone.

Every parent and carer I work with starts there too. All of my clients have said they felt stuck, guilty, and afraid before connecting with me. They feel stuck and are at a loss for what to do.

This is where I get to work.

Hi. I’m Jillian Walsh, RD, RP

Family-Centred Eating Disorder Care Provider

I am the founder and Clinical Director at Change Creates Change. I'm a Family-Centred Eating Disorder Care Provider and I help parents and carers to stop spinning out and start digging into eating disorder recovery with their child. I specialize in working with families who have a child living with an eating disorder - who want to support their child in eating disorder recovery without burning out.

Instead, I give you the knowledge and skills you need to help your child recover without colluding with the eating disorder. I do that by teaching you how to feed and talk to your child, while fostering resilience and protecting against caregiver fatigue. That way you don't surrender when the eating disorder flares up in an attempt to make you back down. Instead, you stand tall and provide structure and support to your child.

And together, we can beat the eating disorder.

Over the past 9 years, I have worked with thousands of individuals living with eating disorders.

In private practice, outpatient and inpatient eating disorder programs. I do this work because I want parents and carers to feel equipped and empowered to help their child recover from an eating disorder. My clients come to me to gain the knowledge and learn the skills necessary to support their child throughout eating disorder recovery.

I want you to...
Let go of the breath you've been holding.

I want you to...
Know that you can help your child recover from their eating disorder.

I want you to...
Understand how much your child needs and wants your support (even if they can't say or show it).

I want you to...
Feel confident in your knowledge and skills.

I want you to...
Help your child reach their full potential.

That's the work we do together.

Together, let's beat the eating disorder.

Eating disorders rob children of their true identity.

They hold children back from reaching their full potential. Eating disorders take over their lives, convincing them that shrinking their bodies will make them more loved and accepted. In reality, it makes them fade away.

Eating disorders make children think they aren't good enough.

They convince children that food is "good" and "bad" and that thinner means better. Eating disorders sensationalize dieting and weight loss. It turns them against their family and friends and makes them feel like the eating disorder is the only thing they need.

I know this because I've been there too.

I was the kid that thought I wasn't good enough. I started trying to shrink my body at 12 years old as a way to cope and to feel in control. I convinced myself that things would be better once I was smaller. I lived with disordered eating for over a decade without my parents ever knowing what was happening. But it wasn't their fault.

And it's not your fault.

Just like a fire needs heat, fuel and oxygen, an eating disorder arises when three elements come together at once; biology, society and psychology. More often than not, there's also an accelerant. Regardless, that fire is now burning, and with the right tools and resources, you can help your child put it out.

You can clear the path for your child to pass safely.

This is our work together - to restore peace and connection within your family and leave the eating disorder behind.

When you have the skills and knowledge necessary to beat an eating disorder, your child can finally breathe again knowing that you are clearing the path for them so that they can safely pass through. You can be their trailblazer.
