WHO WE HELP

Eating disorders do not discriminate. They can affect individuals of all ages, shapes, sizes, colours, and genders. We're here to help, starting with a free 20-minute consultation call with our Clinical Lead to discuss what you are currently experiencing.

We are an interprofessional health team that offers eating disorder care at the community level.

It is important to us that our clients are matched with the level of care that best fits the severity of their eating disorder behaviours. Most times, community eating disorder care is a good fit for children, youth and young adults, as well as those experiencing the first occurrence of eating disorder behaviours. It can also be a good fit for adults who are contemplating change but are not ready to engage in intensive treatment.

Our team understands that wait-times can be extensive for public eating disorder programs. We will support clients while they wait for a higher level of care and once they are accepted, we will do a handover of care with the incoming treatment team.

We meet you where you are and help you navigate every step of the eating disorder treatment process.

We are dedicated to providing collaborative eating disorder care and make it our goal to connect all members of the care team, including your family physician and/or pediatrician.

Our team has a combined 20+ years of eating disorder experience, including at the intersections of perfectionism, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and more. This experience is shared in weekly clinical rounds where we leverage the hive mind to create a detailed and client-centred treatment plan, as well as collaborate on the ongoing care of mutual clients.

We encourage regular medical monitoring by the primary care provider to ensure medical stability throughout the treatment process. Don't worry! Our team can facilitate this process and keeps in close contact with other care providers to ensure the circle of care is well connected.

Children and Teens

Growing up is hard enough on its own, without the added burden of also living with an eating disorder. By offering both therapy and nutrition counselling, we provide comprehensive eating disorder care for children and youth as young as 5 years old. For us, this means our clinicians work closely together to provide wrap-around care, meaning you do not need to be a team on your own and instead, can go back to being the parent. Most importantly, it means your child can focus on the big stuff, like school, friendships and eating disorder recovery.

While we usually recommend involving the family in eating disorder recovery, we recognize that this may not be the ideal choice for all our clients. Regardless of your preference, we will help you so that you can put the eating disorder thoughts, feelings and behaviours behind you.

Adults

Living with an eating disorder is exhausting. It often feels like the constant battle with your brain will never end, no wonder most individuals feel so stuck. Know that recovery is possible, at any age. Let our team of experienced clinicians help you reclaim your life and overcome the eating disorder. Change Creates Change offers nutrition counselling and psychotherapy, with our clinicians participating in weekly interprofessional clinical rounds to make sure we are always providing comprehensive care.

Our team's goal is for clients to reach full eating disorder recovery, but we understand this is not everyone’s goal. We will also support adults who choose harm reduction and quality of life approaches to eating disorder care.

Parents, Carers, Siblings & Families

Supporting a loved one who is battling an eating disorder is hard. Not only is it heartbreaking to watch a family member suffer, it's near impossible to know what to say and do. Support persons are often burdened with being present for emotional blasts and more often than not, they are on the receiving end of an eating disorder's wrath (too much?). This can lead to caregiver burnout, as well as other mental health challenges.

There's no doubt about it, an eating disorder impacts the entire support system. That is also why we offer Parent, Carers & Sibling Support appointments. Our goal is to provide families with the skills and resources needed to support your loved one while making sure your own mental health is protected and maintained. Our team is committed to making sure that the entire support system is fully cared for, so you can maintain the capacity to care for your loved one living with the eating disorder.

Navigating eating disorder care in the current Canadian healthcare system can be difficult.

Our clinicians have worked in various eating disorder programs across Canada and the United States. We are well-connected with other eating disorder care providers across the country to ensure your family gets the necessary help for eating disorders needed as soon as possible.

If Change Creates Change is not the right fit, our team will help you get connected to the care best suited to your needs.
